Multiple people were injured, including one critically, after a Valley Glen explosion Sunday evening.
The incident was reported at about 9:26 p.m. Sunday on the 12700 block of Archwood Street, according to Margaret Stewart, spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD).
The explosion caused severe damage to the one-story, single-family house, according to Stewart.
A total of seven occupants were home at the time, according to LAFD officials.
Two adult males were transported to a local hospital, one with critical burn injuries. Firefighters extricated a patient who was buried in debris. The patient is conscious and talking with firefighters, according to the spokesperson.
“This was a significant explosion, causing severe damage to the home and leveling the garage,” Stewart said.
There is no fire hazard and the gas leak is secured. The operation has now transitioned to a cause investigation, according to Stewart.
Although initially believed to be a natural gas explosion, a preliminary investigation revealed that was not the suspected cause.
“Preliminary examination determined the explosion was not caused (by) a gas leak or a THC extraction lab,” said Captain Erik Scott, public information officer for the LAFD.
The inspection did find evidence of marijuana being grown in the garage area and that is part of the active investigation, according to Scott.
